The Learning Process

Note-Taking:     Note-taking is something I struggle a bit with as I'm an easily distracted person. May that distraction be due to a notification on my phone, the sound of a car horn going off outside, or general conversations going on around me — I always find myself distracted. But, I find that once I'm outside (especially on campus) that despite the noise, I can still focus; which I think may be because I can focus on one noise, the wind, and ground myself in the present. Which helps a lot with the strategies provided in the textbook, specifically previewing the information I want to remember. I'm not great with flash cards and find that they've never helped me much, looking back over notes has always helped. It's also something I've used for a French class I had back in high school, a skill that saved me from failing many tests (though don't ask me to remember anything, I lost it all after we switched teachers). I'll definitely continue to use this...

My Current College Experience/Tutoring

Surprisingly, I don't find college that much different then what I thought it would be; nor is it much different from high school in some regards. Many of my teachers carried the same lax language in high school as they do in my (really only one) classes in college. I'm not struggling with anything yet as it's far too early in the year and most of my classes surround art and history, subjects I enjoy. Regarding what I need to do, I just need to do my assignments earlier and I can admit that's something I struggle with. Currently, all I'm missing from my college experience is making some friends but I'm not exactly the most approachable person, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while for me to make some of them.     I discovered some tutoring that is available for English, which is the Writing Center, and something I believe will help me when my English course kicks in (it's a half-semester class). I missed class today so I will attempt to gi...

My Sleep Habits

Check the appropriate boxes: Usually Sometimes Never I get 7–8 hours of sleep at night. Never I feel sleepy or have trouble focusing during the day. Usually I take a nap when I feel drowsy or need more sleep. Sometimes I fall asleep or have trouble staying awake in class. Sometimes I fall asleep while studying. Never I stay up all night to study for exams or write papers. Never     Sleep is not something that comes easily for me, but its not caused by a lack of care for myself (like drinking caffeine before bed or even choosing to stay up late). No, its caused by health issues and I find that due to them I often lack sleep - which causes a variety of bad sleeping habits, which I'm willing to admit.     Often, I get close to six hours of sleep and occasionally over - which is most likely spurred on by anxiety and breathing issues. Though my constant use of my phone is probably doesn't help these issues and instead probably worsens them, but we all have...
